Watch out for Wilma

I think Tommy has a great photo of Wilma and the threat she poses… 😉

Can't catch a break — Ivan the Terrible

It would seem that Mother Nature is trying to assure us that Florida will not cost John Kerry the election this year… That or she’s pissed at the mess Jeb Bush has made of the state…

At any rate, Hurricane Ivan “The Terrible” is a Category Five hurricane with maximum winds of 160 MPH … And he’s got a plan for a Florida Vacation.…..

IWe’re still cleaning up from Frances which was a nuisance more than a catastrphy… A fourth hurricane to strike the state of Florida in a matter of weeks (Bonnie, Charley and Frances are the prior three) would be devestating…. ANd the damage Ivan could do on his projected path would be nothing less than total and utter.

Batten Down the Hatches Again???

Hurricane Frances is alive and well in the Atlantic. It is a long ways away from any land (including the Lesser Antillies) but this system is a monster and has basically no atmospheric interference to hinder it’s growth:

Just a glimpse

My friend Jason on Skyscraperpage.com has been down in Ft. Myers, helping his own family repair damages to their houses. He also took a few pictures to give everyone a better glimpse of the damage.

This has been a very sobering wakeup call for west-central Florida. We were lucky — 15 degrees north and the damage would have been the worst disaster in United States history…

That was a forrest… Just imagine what happened to the homes… or click on the link provided above.

Chilling Possibilities

Global warming will plunge Britain & Europe into new ice age ‘within decades’

A study, which is being taken seriously by top government scientists, has uncovered a change “of remarkable amplitude” in the circulation of the waters of the North Atlantic.

Similar events in pre-history are known to have caused sudden “flips” of the climate, bringing ice ages to northern Europe within a few decades. The development – described as “the largest and most dramatic oceanic change ever measured in the era of modern instruments”, by the US Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, which led the research – threatens to turn off the Gulf Stream, which keeps Europe’s weather mild.

If that happens, Britain and northern Europe are expected to switch abruptly to the climate of Labrador – which is on the same latitude – bringing a nightmare scenario where farmland turns to tundra and winter temperatures drop below -20C. The much-heralded cold snap predicted for the coming week would seem balmy by comparison.

This might seriously put a damper on my plans to cross Abbey Road sometime in the near future…. :tongue

Seriously — the Gulf Stream turning off would lead to increased strikes of Hurricanes against the US east coast, the northeast’s winters would be much more chilling too….
