Night note
I was right… :rolleyes
Anyway, my day was bah humbug for the most part. Not that I was sour towards my birthday or things happening but nothing much happened. I DID however have a kick ass workout and surprised my trainer with my strength. That made me feel good for the entire day.
I also had a couple fo dreams last night that I am still trying to understand. I can’t remember all of them but I know I won a writing contest… no, correction… I came in second place (as “stonegauge” — not as my real name) and had money coming to me. I then had a bunch of stuff happen and I snuck off — grabbed a gun from someone and went to deal with Mexican revolutionaries inside a cave who were shooting a movie? Strange… I killed Pancho Villa and a couple of other guys… They thought the gun had blanks… sucks to be them huh….
Now if only that made more sense to me.
As of right now, 2 percent of the precincts in California are reporting and CNN and the media is declaring winners. This really pisses me off because they screwed up like this in 2000. Why declare it so early??
Well, I can’t say much more… Actually I could but it’s not my time to talk.
About that recall:
I think Dean is right that the results of the recall are a sign of frustration and not necessarily support for Arnold. But I think it’s a combination of frustration about the national economy (as it affects the state) as well as a frustration with politics as usual in CA.
As for Dean’s support for Davis and speaking out against the recall, I think he was right to do that. The recall was wrong, plain and simple. It undermines the democratic process by allowing millionaire partisans to buy the signatures needed to initiate a recall of a properly-elected governor. I personally think little of Davis, and would have been glad to see better challengers last year, but I don’t think the recall was right. We got the governor we elected, and we should have kept him. Now the spectre of recall will keep any governor from doing something that requires leadership and hard choices, for fear that citizens will vote to recall him/her from office.
The crazy thing about this recall is that it won’t change the way things work in CA. The legislature will still have only 30% of the general fund to shift around in creating a budget, Republican legislators will still say NO to all taxes, and Democratic legislators will still control the Senate and Assembly and push through their legislation. As for Davis vs. Arnold? Well, Davis was a centrist who vetoed a lot of bills in an attempt to control spending. Arnold claims to be a centrist and will likely do the same. The difference? Davis knew what he was doing, and Arnold will be learning it all from scratch. I wish him luck, because the consequences of his actions will be felt throughout the state.
I hate when they do that. They rely on exit polls and call the winner before 1% of the actual votes are in. I personally trust machines that at least in theory count every vote over exit polls that survey every 20th voter.
